The quiz that ends with a cappuccino: a playful idea for conference booths

At a conference many things try to grab our attention at once. A screen lights up, a talk starts, someone waves from the end of the corridor. In such situations a booth activity benefits from being explainable in a single sentence: answer a few questions, and we’ll print your result on your coffee.
For an AI-themed event, for example, you could make a playful quiz about how you use the technology. The category you receive at the end could then appear as a pre-prepared print on top of the drink. This is a design idea; the method of linking the quiz and the printing needs to be developed separately.
First: make the question good
Instead of opening with “how much do you know about artificial intelligence?” you can take a more human approach. What would you ask for help with? Which task would you delegate first? Do you try a new tool immediately, or do you read the manual first?
Results can be friendly, easy-to-own roles: Idea Generator, Explorer, Organizer, Experimenter. It’s best to treat these as playful categories rather than presenting them as a serious personality test.
Four or five outcomes provide plenty of scope
At an event it’s an advantage if the quiz finishes with a small number of clearly distinct outcomes. Each can have a short word or a simple graphic. At the counter you can offer prepared samples to choose from, and the guest will know exactly what to expect.
A longer analysis can remain on the screen if the concept calls for it. On the drink itself, however, place a single, easy-to-read result. That’s visually cleaner and also makes organizing service easier.
Who knows which coffee belongs to whom?
This less visible question is the key to the whole idea. Does the participant show their result? Do they receive a small card? Does the booth staff indicate the chosen design? Any of these solutions can work, provided the roles are clarified in advance.
You don’t have to assume an automatic technical link. At a smaller event manual sample selection can be perfectly suitable, while other situations may require custom development. Decide that at the start of the planning.
Walk through the guest’s journey
During testing, have someone act as a visitor: go up to the booth, complete the quiz, show the result, order and pick up the drink. You’ll quickly see where a sign is missing, where help is needed, and where queues might form.
Also, don’t ask for personal data that isn’t necessary for the game. If you want a separate sign-up, design it as an independent, clearly labelled step.
Thinking along similar lines? With FOMO Coffee it’s worth coordinating the details of the drink printing, the pre-prepared designs and the coffee service flow; implement the quiz to match those elements.
