Robot behind the counter: how to give technology a role at your event
Published 9/24/2026 · 3 min read · Author: FOMO Coffee

A robotic arm moves behind the coffee counter, someone stops, then calls a colleague over. "Look at this!" It's hard to write a better opener for a technology demo than that. The next question, however, belongs to the event organizer: what do you want to happen next?
A Robot Barista can become a genuinely good part of the event if the spectacle connects to what the event is about. The operation of an industrial robotic arm is interesting, but the situation designed around it can give it a memorable role.
Connect it to what the event is about
On an innovation day, automation can be a natural starting point. At a technology company's stand, it can illustrate human-and-machine collaboration. At an internal event, it’s about how employees feel about the new solutions.
This doesn't necessarily require a long explanation. A well-phrased line nearby, or a prepared staff member, can help a lot. From the "look, a robot" moment, it will be easier to start a conversation about what matters to your brand.
Make the motion visible
If guests only see the backs of a queue, it doesn't matter how spectacularly the robotic arm works. When planning, also consider from where the process can be observed and where the drink will be collected.
Ideally, onlookers and those ordering shouldn't have to stop at the same narrow point. Always define the operating area and required clearances in consultation with the operator. The spectacle is pleasant when a guest can understand where to stand without extra explanation.
Encourage guests to ask questions
What exactly does the robot do? Which steps are automated? How does a human assist? These questions are much more interesting than a general "do you like it?"
It's worth preparing the answers in advance about the specific equipment. Don't attribute capabilities to it that it doesn't actually use, and don't call every automated movement artificial intelligence. The real operation can be exciting enough on its own.
Let the scene take center stage
An overcrowded background, flashing signs and loud video can easily start competing with the main spectacle. A clean environment around the robot helps the motion remain the focal point. The brand's appearance can still be distinctive: a few consistent colors and well-placed graphics are enough.
Also think through the timing. If the program funnels the entire audience to the counter at once, the rhythm of the demonstration and the service must be adjusted to that. It's worth agreeing on concrete capacity in light of the actual operation and the menu.
When designing the FOMO Robot Barista, therefore, write down the event's purpose alongside the expected number of guests. An expo booth, a company's innovation day and a relaxed evening event each tell a different story.
Give technology a memorable role with the Robot Barista, and request a quote.
